Each week, I will post questions, thoughts and links for you to read and make comments about. Each student can respond to a minimum of twice weekly. This can be counted as extra credit. Let me know if you have any questions about the current events blog. This can be done during our class time or you can work from home. As we explore many different aspects of reading, writing, and current events, I think you will enjoy reading a variety of articles.

Are you guilty of adding gum to the gum poles in downtown Charleston?
I went to charleston over christmas breack and i saw gum all over the poles. I bet there was about like almost a couple of hundred pieces of gum. It was crazy!
There are a few ways you could look at this. 1) It could be an accident that someone didn't mean to start. 2) It could be memories that people have from the first time they went to Charlston. 3) It is reasonable for people to pay because they might messing with historicle landmarks. Finally 4). Cops should not mess with it or the people because that would be another way to atract more tourists. But either way I am not guilty of putting gum on that pole.
I have not been there in a long time...how are the cops supposed to know who did it anyway??what are they gunna do..check the people's DNA or something??That is really stupid..i mean i can see a sign being put up to ask people to please not do that but threatening to charge the people a fine is absolutely crazy! I think that the cops are crazy for put signs up say if you put gum on the pole you will get $1,000 fine.
that is crazy for putting up a sign that says if you put gum on a pole you get a fine. I mean its just a pole.
That sounds really nasty! I don't think i would have added to it (especially for the fines). :D
I don't think a sign would keep people from adding gum. It would be hard to find the people that added some to charge them.
I don't think a sign is going to do much to stop people from chewing gum and sticking it on a pole.

I think that's crazy to pass a silly fine like that. I mean I could understand putting signs but not fines.
